Grants Manager

Salary Range: $50,000 – $60,000

General Description:

The South Carolina Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity. The Foundation is responsible for the operation of the IOLTA (Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts) Program in South Carolina, and distribution of IOLTA funds in the form of grants to organizations that assist indigent South Carolinians in civil legal matters and provide legal education. The newly-created Grants Manager is primarily responsible for the processing and monitoring of grant applicants and overseeing the grant process. The Grants Manager works under the direction and general supervision of the Executive Director.

Specific Duties of Grants Manager

  • Review grant applications and organize them for review and consideration by the Grants Committee of the Board of Directors.

  • Process and monitor grant applications in accordance with established policies and procedures. Notify applicants of Board funding decisions and obtain necessary contract from approved applicants.

  • Review interim and final grant reports and make appropriate recommendations if action is necessary. Monitor of grantees, including compliance with grant terms and conditions.

  • Assist the Executive Director with the planning and preparation of twice-yearly networking events for grantees.

  • Serve as staff support for Grants and Impact Grants Committees. Prepare committee agendas, briefing materials, and minutes in conjunction with committee chairs, and ensure that the committees have accurate, timely, and relevant information necessary to carry out their responsibilities.

  • Respond to inquiries from interested applicants regarding the Foundation’s grant-making guidelines.

  • Maintain accurate records for all applications received and grants awarded.

  • Assist the Executive Director in the implementation of an effective program of communication regarding grants, and preparation of the Annual Report, newsletters, articles, and other grant-related marketing materials.

  • With program objectives in mind, make every attempt to be aware of current issues or events that may impact grantees and/or influence future funding proposals. Develop and implement procedures for the Foundation to evaluate and monitor grant projects, as well as use existing policies and procedures.

  • Perform such other duties as needed or requested by the Executive Director or Board.

Qualifications Needed

  • Four-year college degree;

  • Two years’ work/internship experience;

  • Preferred experience with a nonprofit or legal organization;

  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise reports;

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take initiative, multi-task, be a team-player, be flexible, adapt to shifting priorities;

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;

  • Strong attention to detail;

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills;

  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills – with ability to work independently to meet deadlines;

  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple tasks at the same time;

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, and experience working with databases;

  • Travel as necessary throughout South Carolina.
