Bradish “Brad” J. Waring, a seasoned trial attorney with Butler Snow LLP, has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award, recognizing his outstanding service to the law and the community.
“Brad exemplifies the values behind this award, and we’re proud to celebrate his outstanding contributions to the legal profession,” said Christopher R. Maddux, chair of Butler Snow.
The DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award was established in 1980 in memory of Charlton DuRant, a Manning attorney who served as a state senator and special associate justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. It is one of the most prestigious honors the Bar can bestow, with recipients nominated by their peers and selected by the Foundation Board.
“Charlton DuRant was a lawyer’s lawyer,” Waring said. “To receive an award in his name, alongside so many esteemed attorneys before me, is a profound honor.”
According to a press release from Butler Snow LLP, Waring’s career spans more than 45 years, with over 50 trials to verdict. The firm highlighted his service as a mediator and arbitrator and praised his numerous awards, including recognition by The Best Lawyers in America®, South Carolina Thomson Reuters Super Lawyers®, Chambers USA, and Martindale-Hubbell®, as well as the 2024 South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also knighted by the Queen of Denmark for his service as Honorary Consul for Denmark in North and South Carolina, elevated to Knight First Class in 2024.
Beyond his legal practice, Waring has served as Past President of the South Carolina Bar, a Legacy Donor of the SC Bar Foundation, and President-Elect of the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society, among other professional leadership roles.
With a career marked by excellence, leadership, and service, Waring joins a respected tradition of DuRant Award honorees.
